The goal of our research is to use GIS cyberinfrastructure to provide interoperable, intelligent, and scalable GIS services over the Web for sharing of spatial data and environmental models

We are conducting research toward the GIS cyberinfrasturcture to solve the heterogeneity problems in spatial data and environmental models and to advance decision making by integrating the available and useful heterogeneous spatial data and environmental models.

We are developing algorithms and tools toward implementing the interoperable and intelligent GIS cyberinfrasturcture, which allows scientific research, particularly interdisciplinary research access to a variety of different sources/resolutions of spatial data and processing tools over the Internet. We are studying methods to allow GIS users to migrate from dedicated desktop GIS solutions to online, loosely coupled, and spatial semantic web services, which are available online and accept heterogeneous spatial data and process them and pass results to other services.

Our research results will benefit not only researchers in this field but also environmental policy makers and the public from improved discovery, access and use of spatial data and modeling services. We hope our research results can be used by multi-disciplinary science communities, such as environmental studies, ecosystem sustainability, global climate change, and natural resource planning and management, to conduct their research and increase their knowledge and understanding of our planet and its changing processes.

Our current research focuses on seamless data integration and decentralized geospatial computing to support for non-expert interaction with spatial information.
